PCA Louisiana focuses on Building Strong Families in April

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) Louisiana wants to help build strong families in Louisiana by offering parenting tips, a calendar of family activities and things anyone can do to help a family on “Blue Ribbon Friday.”

The parenting tips deal with information about a variety of topics including:

  • Surviving Toilet Training
  • Winning the Chore War
  • Helping Children Feel Good About Themselves
  • Setting Rules and Consequences with Teens
  • Self-Care for Working Moms
  • How to Handle Cyber Bullies
  • Tips for Being a Nurturing Parent

The April calendar encourages family activities such as a picnic, reading and cooking together and making a family safety plan, as well as ways that parents can show their love for their children.

Finally, PCA Louisiana has declared April 28 as “Blue Ribbon Friday” throughout the state, and all citizens are encouraged to wear blue or blue ribbon that day in honor of all Louisiana families and in memory of those children whose lives are lost each year due to abuse and neglect.

It is a sad fact that 34 children died during the last year because of abuse and neglect, and they must not be forgotten.

Additionally, many thousands of Louisiana children have been displaced this past year because of the hurricanes, and that those families need extra support and understanding during these stressful and confusing times.

“Blue Ribbon Friday” is symbolic of the role everyone plays in the daily lives of children.

Some of things, besides wearing blue, PCA Louisiana is encouraging individuals to do on “Blue Ribbon Friday” are offering to baby-sit for a friend who needs a break, learning more about legislation that affects children and families, having fun and laughing with your own family and saying “I love you” to you children at least once during the day.

The Louisiana chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America , PCA Louisiana is a statewide, nonprofit organization committed to preventing the abuse and neglect of our state’s children.
