What Should Child Abuse Prevention Month Mean to Our State?
What should Child Abuse Prevention Month mean to the citizens of our state? This April, we at Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) Louisiana hope it means that you pay a little more attention to the children around you.
How are your kids doing in school? Do they have problems with a bully? Do you worry about what they are seeing on the Internet?
How are your neighbor’s kids? Are they latch-key children, who are at home alone in the afternoons? Could your neighbor with young children use a break one afternoon?
How is the quality of your local schools? Do you have a park where your kids can play safely? What condition is your local library in?
We know that one person cannot solve every problem, but you can make one less problem to solve.
We all have a role to play in child abuse prevention – what’s yours? Can you volunteer a few hours of your time to answer our KIDLINE? Can you advocate for improvements to your local park system? Do you want to spend time in your child’s classroom? Can you lend a helping hand to a family you know is in need? Have you thought about attending an Internet safety workshop to make sure your child is safe from online predators?
There are many ways to make a positive impact this April. One is to participate in “Blue Ribbon Friday” on April 27. Wear a blue ribbon to show your support for the families of our state and for child abuse prevention.
Together, we can help to educate families and care for kids. There is no work more important to the future of Louisiana.
Sincerely,

Anna Fogle
