According to Rutledge, the painting portrays what PCA Louisiana stands for—the idea of children living “free from the cares thrust upon them by people and circumstances beyond their control.” This painting was chosen as the official image for the 2005 Night of the Child artwork because the happy, little girl represents a childhood free from the stresses of abuse, neglect and violence—the type of life that every child should experience.
