Advocacy
| Why should YOU care about preventing child abuse?

Because you care about the rising costs of chronic health problems, mental health services, substance abuse, domestic violence, animal abuse, juvenile delinquency, criminal behavior and the economy. These issues affect all of us, and the prevention of child abuse and neglect has a positive impact on all of these issues.

Because, whether you know it or not, you already shape children's lives! Every day, as a member of your community you shape children's lives in ways you might not even notice. Children hear what you say and see what you do. And, whether you are a bus driver, teacher, parent, neighbor, or random passer-by, you interact with children and play a role in their development.

Because at Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana, we believe in prevention—in doing what we can to ensure that children live in stable, loving and stimulating environments. And we believe healthy child development is the foundation for community and economic development—the building blocks of a flourishing society and stable nation.

  • Prevention means supporting community-based programs like home visitation and parent education that focus on child development and reduce the likelihood of child maltreatment.
  • Prevention means engaging in public education, collaborating with other organizations in the field and advocating for changes in public policy that focus on preventing child abuse and neglect before it occurs.
